Alzheimer’s Family Organization Caregiver Learning Day coming up in Citrus County

The Alzheimer’s Family Organization (AFO) will host a free Caregiver Learning Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2019 at the Citrus Memorial Hospital Historic School House, 502 West Highland Boulevard, in Inverness.  A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided, in addition to drawings for door prizes.

The program will include reports about services available from the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office Senior Services Division, services available from the Senior Care Program of Citrus County by Lynsie Cahela and Janice Hale, and services available from the Alzheimer’s Family Organization by AFO Executive Director Kathleen Winters.

In addition, Debbie Selsavage, President of Coping with Dementia LLC will speak about communication and techniques of care with individuals living with dementia, and Hillary Dube of HNR Gunworks will talk about dementia and firearms safety.

There will also be reports on services and resources from Meridien Research, Advanced Family Hearing, and Senior Helpers, which will be on hand with its ever-popular Virtual Dementia Tour (VDT).  The VDT is a science-based simulation that helps caregivers better understand what a person living with dementia experiences on a daily basis.

Parking is available both next to the Historic School House or across the street.  While the event is free, reservations are encouraged for planning purposes.  To register to attend, or for more information, call 352-616-1070.
