Giving Tuesday - Nursing Persistence Fund
She was one setback away from giving up.
Right before her new clinical rotation was about to begin, her car broke down. The repair cost was $250 — an amount that might seem small to some, but for her, in that moment, it was impossible. Missing clinicals would have meant being dropped from the program. Everything she had worked for felt like it was slipping away.
Still, the next morning, she showed up to class by catching a ride with a classmate. One of her instructors noticed something was off and gently asked what was going on. When she finally shared the situation, the instructor didn’t hesitate.
“You’re not quitting,” she said. “We’re going to help you.”

The staff and faculty at ATA College came together and found a way to cover the cost of the repair. They didn’t make her feel ashamed. They simply stepped in with compassion — so she wouldn’t lose her future over something she couldn’t control.
Because of their support, her car was repaired, she made it to her clinicals, and she completed the rotation without missing a step. Months later, that same clinical site offered her a job.
Today, she’s working as a Licensed Practical Nurse — right in the same community that helped her stay on track.
That matters deeply to her. In a rural area like Spring Hill, the “brain drain” is very real. Many students train locally, earn their credentials, and leave for larger cities where the salaries are higher. But she chose to stay. The campus community that stood by her in her hardest moment became her reason to serve, give back, and grow where she was supported.
That’s why the new Nursing Persistence Fund means so much.
ATA College instructors and staff already go above and beyond to keep students moving forward — but the need is bigger than they can meet alone.
This Giving Tuesday, we invite local businesses and individuals to help expand the safety net that kept her — and students like her — from falling through the cracks.
Your gift turns potential dropouts into graduates, caregivers, and hometown professionals who stay, serve, and strengthen our local workforce.
One act of generosity changed her life.
Your generosity can change someone else’s tomorrow.
