Name: Hernando Audubon Meeting about Red-cockaded Woodpeckers
Date: September 26, 2019
Time: 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM EDT
Event Description:
A talk about Red-cockaded Woodpecker Habitat. The Red-cockaded Woodpecker was once a fairly common bird in the pine forests of southeastern United States. This bird is now rare, local, and considered a federally endangered species. It only thrives in an old growth pine forest, many of which have been logged in the past century. The speaker, Vince Morris, who is Resource Administrator for Florida Forest Service, has worked for over 20 years to reestablish the Red-cockaded Woodpecker population in the Withlacoochee State Forest.
